Good morning! There is nothing like starting your day in Gods word! Spend a few moments in prayer preparing your heart. Be open to what God is speaking to you as we dive into this incredible old story…our history.

Today we are opening our Bibles to Genesis 18:1-15 or click here to read an old testament story that changes the course of history for everyone! The story of Abraham and Sarah and the promise of a baby boy.

I.

“I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.”

Genesis 13:16

II.

“Abraham and Sarah were old by this time, very old. Sarah was far past the age for having babies. Sarah laughed within herself, ‘An old woman like me? Get pregnant? With this old man of a husband?’ God said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh saying, ‘Me? Have a baby? An old woman like me?’ Is anything too hard for God? I’ll be back about this time next year and Sarah will have a baby.”

Genesis 18:11-14

III.

“The Lord came to Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what He had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time God had told him.”

Genesis 21:1-3

Our God is a promise keeper. He keeps His word even when it seems like what has been promised is impossible. It is so easy to let doubt creep into our lives especially when we are in a season of waiting for a promise to be fulfilled. Hold on to the promise that He will do what He says. Every word that He has spoken He has not forgotten. There’s a testing and refining that takes place in us as we wait on His perfect way and timing. Our faith and trust grow as we wait with expectancy. The incredible part in all of this…He is with us in the waiting as we walk in His promises.

Decades pass from the time that God promises Abraham that he will have many descendants until Isaac is actually born. Years of waiting, questioning, doubting. So many years that Abraham and Sarah decide to take things into their own hands and have a baby through their maid (Genesis 16:1-4). We tend to make these lists of why something is “impossible” and try to come up with our own plan. Why do we think we can do it better on our own? This unbelief stems from a human perspective and excludes God from the picture. Through each and every promise our incredible Father is saying, “believe Me, trust Me”. God again reiterates His promise to Abraham and Sarah at the ages of 100 and 90. “This time next year Sarah will have a baby”. After all these years of waiting, God had not forgotten about them! He is going to keep His promise just like He always does! When Sarah hears this she laughs. This isn’t a laugh of happiness and joy. This probably sounded like a cruel joke to her. She had been desiring a baby for so long and wanted to give her husband a family. Sarah was now way past childbearing years and struggled with infertility when she was younger. It was physically impossible for her to get pregnant. Can you imagine all the thoughts running through her mind? The roller coaster of emotions as she waited. Laughter, tears, joy, hope, doubt. She had to trust God above what she could see and what her body could physically do. This was something she could not make happen on her own. Can you imagine her joy when she saw her sweet baby for the first time? Her promise finally fulfilled! Abraham and Sarah lived to only see a portion of this covenant fulfilled. One day God was going to rescue the world through their family line. THE PROMISE would be born. Our Savior.

God’s promises always come to pass. In times of doubt, surrender. Your pain, frustration and unmet expectations. In that surrender we are able to rest in His promises and make room for Him to move. His ways are always better than ours. He is good to the deepest core of His being. His promises never fail. It is who He is and He never changes.

Is there an area in your life that you are having trouble trusting God’s promises? Has doubt taken over? Write it down. Speak it out. Find someone that you can open up to and talk about it with. The enemy would love for you to keep this hidden and to feel alone in the waiting.

Maybe you are on the other side and have seen Gods promises fulfilled in areas of your life. Would you share that story with someone today? Nothing builds our faith like hearing how others have walked through seasons of waiting and seen a promise come to pass!

P.s. We’d love to hear from you during this series! If God is stirring something in you, tag us on instagram or facebook and share. We would love to share what God is doing in all of our lives and encourage the women in our world with the ways God is encouraging us!
